CineMax

Oh, how time flies. Max Recordings, the little label that could, is set to celebrate its 5th anniversary with a big concert at Sticky Fingerz on May 5. Appropriately, they're calling it Cinco de Max-o. Anticipate. Big Silver, Kevin Kerby, and Max alums The American Princes. You probably knew all about that.
Perhaps more exciting is the news that Matson Films, a New York-based film production and distribution company, will be in Little Rock in late April through early May to shoot a documentary tentatively titled Max 5 that will focus on Max Recordings' anniversary, but will expand to cover the history of Little Rock's independent music culture. Matson plans to treat the film like a major independent release, albeit with some innovative promotional plans: Instead of regular theatrical screenings, the film will "tour" across the country, with parties or concerts following each showing. The film will be FREE for download, which, according to Matson films president Richard Matson, will be a first for major film releases (In true DIY/punk spirit, Matson says they'll ask only for donations). Additionally, 10,000 DVD units will be printed and distributed to retail and rental oulets. And there will be an accompanying soundtrack. Matson Films is hoping for a Fall 06 release date.
Dude. This is super exciting. Better go ahead and map out your outfits for late April/early May lest you get captured on film.
